Geneva is one practical search centre in French-speaking Switzerland. The official IB directory confirms programme authorisation but does not disclose external-candidate policy, answer-language availability or participation in the requested session.

Build the travel area around the Lake Geneva rail corridor, including nearby Vaud when travel is acceptable. Cross-border proximity is not the same as simple registration: country, school and travel arrangements must all be confirmed.

Geneva admissions: check points without the core

UNIGE lists at least 32 points excluding bonus points for the IB route, alongside subject and level conditions. This is an admissions check, not a promise that any Geneva school will host your retake. Example: 34/45 with three core points is 31/42, so the headline total alone misses that threshold.

Geneva city, the airport side, the lakeside rail corridor and neighbouring Vaud create different journey patterns. The tpg network joins buses, trams and other connections, while regional rail can widen the search. Only widen it after checking the exact arrival time for every paper.

A cross-border home address may be geographically close, but border crossing, ticketing, mobile access and an early start add separate risks. Keep cross-border travel as an explicit option rather than hiding it inside a generic travel area.

Confirm language and Swiss admission rules independently

Geneva is French-speaking, while individual IB teaching and examination arrangements may use other languages. State the required examination language in the first request and confirm it with the accepting coordinator; do not infer it from the school's website language.

For a Swiss university target, compare the complete Diploma profile with the current swissuniversities requirements. Subject mix, level and total points can matter together, so model the retake against the actual missing condition.

Registration, session and document checks

Choose May or November using both school availability and the date your university needs the result. A school may participate in one session but not accept your subjects, level or external status.

Prepare a clean registration file before outreach. Ask the accepting coordinator which previous candidate details and component records can be retrieved; do not assume an IA or coursework arrangement follows from exam hosting.
